Working Together for Every Horse: Our Partnership with Hayleigh Joyce
At McKenzie Park and the Sody Centre, we firmly believe that rehabilitation and performance are never a one-person job. The best outcomes come when experienced professionals work together, communicate openly, and always put the horse first.
That is exactly why Hayleigh Joyce from Equine Physiotherapy SA is such an important part of our team.
Hayleigh is instrumental in the care of many of the horses that come through the Sody Centre. We work closely with her on rehabilitation and performance programs, maintaining regular communication about every horse under her care. As machine operators, we don’t simply follow a program and hope for the best. We continually update Hayleigh on each horse’s progress, discuss how they are responding, and work together to make adjustments where needed.
This collaborative approach ensures every horse receives an individualised program that evolves as they improve.
Hayleigh isn’t just our rehabilitation specialist. She is one of the biggest reasons our competition horses are so wonderfully fit and prepared for the demands of eventing. Every horse in our team has a carefully tailored fitness program written by Hayleigh, and she works closely with us to advise on each horse’s workload throughout the season. Whether a horse is building fitness, returning from injury, or preparing for a major competition, Hayleigh is continually involved in guiding their progression.
We are in constant communication, updating her on every horse’s development so that each program can be adjusted as they improve. That collaborative approach ensures every horse is progressing safely, confidently and to the best of its ability.
Hayleigh’s expertise extends far beyond our own competition team. She has now written rehabilitation and fitness programs for many of the horses that use McKenzie Park and the Sody Centre as their dedicated fitness, rehabilitation and rest facility.
From some of Australia’s leading dressage horses, showjumpers and eventers through to much-loved pleasure horses, young horses beginning their careers, and horses simply needing a helping hand back to soundness, Hayleigh has developed tailored programs for every level of horse and rider. Every program is individual, with the horse’s needs, goals and welfare always at the centre of her decision-making.
One of the qualities we admire most about Hayleigh is her approachable nature. She is never judgemental and is passionate about helping every horse and every owner, regardless of their experience or competition level. Whether you’re preparing for an FEI championship, bringing a horse back from injury, or simply wanting to improve your horse’s strength, confidence and wellbeing, Hayleigh takes the time to create a program that is achievable, practical and designed specifically for you and your horse.
That philosophy perfectly aligns with ours at McKenzie Park. We believe every horse deserves access to high-quality rehabilitation and fitness support, and Hayleigh’s willingness to share her knowledge with riders of all levels is one of the many reasons she is such a valued member of our team.
Whether a horse is recovering from surgery, returning from injury, or working towards peak athletic performance, having an experienced Equine Veterinary Physiotherapist overseeing their rehabilitation provides another level of confidence for both us and our clients.
Looking ahead, we’re incredibly excited to expand our partnership even further. We are planning to host monthly treatment days and educational clinics with Hayleigh at McKenzie Park, giving owners the opportunity to have their horses assessed and treated while also learning more about injury prevention, rehabilitation, strengthening, and performance management.
Meet Hayleigh Joyce
Hayleigh is the owner and lead practitioner of Equine Physiotherapy SA, bringing almost 20 years of experience as an Equine Veterinary Physiotherapist.
Originally from South Africa, Hayleigh completed her university studies before establishing and operating her own equine physiotherapy practice for five years. During this time, she worked closely alongside veterinarians, managing both surgical rehabilitation cases and elite performance horses.
Fifteen years ago, Hayleigh moved to South Australia where she established Equine Physiotherapy SA. She also became an FEI Permitted Equine Therapist, allowing her to perform restricted therapies at FEI competitions.
Rehabilitation remains the heart of Hayleigh’s work. She is passionate about helping horses recover from injury while also improving strength, movement and long-term athletic performance through carefully designed treatment and conditioning programs.
For interstate clients, Hayleigh also provides online consultations, including customised water treadmill programs and post-surgical rehabilitation plans, making expert guidance available wherever your horse is located.
Away from work, Hayleigh enjoys life on the farm with her family, her two young children, their horses and her daughter’s pony. A lifelong dressage rider, she has previously competed to Grand Prix level and hopes to return to that level again in the future.
